OK, Zabbies! Am I the only one that wishes we could provide our children with the same safety at school that WE had back at ZAB? I know it's quite a pipe dream, but... since the shootings in Littleton (and I graduated less than 30 miles from there), in the area that I currently live there have been at least three separate school "incidents". Two of them occurred in Elementary schools, the other one at a middle school. Were we that sheltered? I, for one, was as I spent all but one of my high school years at ZAB. Ya know, I read a report just recently that the military was shorthanded- due to various reasons including pay, compensation and retirement issues. I can honestly look back and say that for whatever it's worth to my parents, the Air Force provided security for us kids (or is that my sheltered life syndrome showing again?). I talk to my 13 yr old son often about ZAB. He thinks it sounds almost like a make believe place. He doesn't quite understand why, after all these years and all the different places we have ended up, we remain loyal to fellow classmates. The kids these days just don't get it sometimes. I can't say that they've LOST sight of what their school years represent. For some of them, it was never there to begin with as society and peer pressure hurry them along- always looking for that next level in life.

I hope that some of us are able to "stop the world" somewhat and help our kids be kids, without the fear of going to school, without fear of retaliation from peer pressure. Sheltered life? Yes, you're probably right, but I would give just about anything if my kid could be brought up in a "ZAB" environment. Not only in a place like it, but with the people that made the place safe.
